The structure of the sand pipe is very simple, basically composed of two sections, namely the conical inlet and the cylindrical outlet, the size of which is slightly different for different purposes, as shown in the figure.

2. Materials

Due to the erosion of high-speed abrasive particles, the material selection of the sand pipe is very important. Generally speaking, the sand pipe material must have high hardness and high wear resistance, both of which are indispensable. Generally, it is made of composite tungsten carbide material. Usually, in cemented carbide, WC exists in the form of particles as the main wear-resistant phase, while Co is only used as a binder. However, the presence of this soft metal binder obviously has a great impact on its wear resistance, so the general Co content should be limited to less than 6%. The shape, size, type and process conditions of the carbide have a great influence on the wear resistance of the material.

3. Wear and tear

The wear of high-speed abrasive particles on the sand tube is essentially the category of abrasive wear. Abrasive wear includes sliding abrasive wear, impact crushing and high stress crushing abrasive wear, erosion wear and so on. Sliding abrasive wear plays a decisive role in the wear of sand tubes, and the main modes of wear are micro-cutting, micro-deformation or fatigue. It is not only related to the material and shape of the sand tube, but also the particle size, shape, hardness, and sliding speed of the abrasive all affect it, so the wear process of the sand tube is very complicated. Therefore, reasonable selection of jet pressure, abrasive material and particle size can effectively improve the service life of the sand tube; during the design and assembly process, the centering of the water nozzle and the sand tube should be ensured so that the jet is in the best position to prevent Partial wear.

4. Specifications

The inner diameter of the sand pipe is generally 0.76-1.2mm, and the outer diameter is generally 6.35mm, 7mm and 7.14mm.

5. Lifespan

The service life of the sand tube depends on the material of the product itself, and is closely related to the pressure of the waterjet equipment, whether to use abrasives, the material and hardness of the abrasives, etc. Generally about 200 hours.
