So for steel casting manufacturers, what effects do the various elements in high manganese steel have on castings?


1. The influence of non-metallic inclusions on the performance of High manganese steel sand casting;

When the molten steel solidifies, a large amount of manganese oxide will precipitate on the perimeter of the steel in the form of non-metallic inclusions, which will reduce the impact toughness of the steel and increase the hot cracking tendency of the casting.


2. The effect of carbide on the properties of high manganese steel:

Carbides reduce the impact toughness and tensile strength of high manganese steels.

3. What effect will the selection of chemical composition have on the properties of high manganese steel?

(1) Carbon content: If the carbon content in the high manganese steel is very low, the effective work hardening effect will not be produced. On the contrary, if the carbon content is too high, a large amount of carbon will appear in the as-cast state. Carbides, especially coarse carbides will appear, so in order to avoid the precipitation of carbides, steel casting manufacturers must control the carbon content.


(2) Manganese content: steel casting manufacturers must ensure that there is sufficient manganese content in the steel, which is also to ensure the performance of high-manganese steel. If the manganese content is too low, then a single Austrian On the contrary, the manganese content should not be too high. It is stipulated in the production that the general WMn will be controlled at about 11.0%-14.0%, and the WC will be controlled at about 0.9%-1.3%. It should be pointed out that there should be an appropriate match between the carbon content and the manganese content, that is, there should be a suitable ratio of manganese to carbon, and it is recommended to control it at Mn/C=10.


(3) Sulfur content: Generally, the specification requirements of high manganese steel are that Ws is greater than or equal to 0.05%. Because the manganese content in high manganese steel is high, most of the sulfur and manganese in the steel are in the process of smelting. , fused with each other to form manganese sulfide into the slag, so the sulfur content in the steel is very low, and the harmful effect of sulfur in high manganese steel is much higher than that of phosphorus.


(4) Silicon content: The Wsi content in high manganese steel is generally between 0.3% and 0.8%. The presence of silicon will reduce the solubility of carbon in austenite, promote the precipitation of carbides, and lead to the resistance of steel. The abrasiveness and impact toughness are reduced, so the silicon content in the high-manganese steel, the steel casting manufacturer should also control the lower limit of the specification.


(5) Phosphorus content: the specification content in high manganese steel is greater than or equal to 0.7% in Wp. When steel casting manufacturers are melting high manganese steel, because the phosphorus content of ferromanganese is relatively high, the general situation The phosphorus content in the lower steel is also relatively high. The phosphorus element will reduce the impact toughness of the steel, and will also cause defects such as cracking in the casting. Therefore, the phosphorus content in the steel should also be minimized.
