Hub Development

In the past, most car wheel bearings used single-row tapered roller or ball bearings in pairs. With the development of technology, cars have widely used car hub units. The range and usage of hub bearing units are increasing day by day, and Wheel Lost Wax Investment Castings has developed to the third generation: the first generation is composed of double-row angular contact bearings. The second generation has a flange on the outer raceway for fixing the bearing, which can simply fit the bearing on the wheel shaft and fix it with nuts. Makes car maintenance easier. The third-generation hub bearing unit uses a combination of the bearing unit and the anti-lock brake system. The hub unit is designed to have an inner flange and an outer flange, the inner flange is bolted to the drive shaft, and the outer flange mounts the entire bearing together.

Wheel type

The hub is also called the rim. According to the characteristics and requirements of different models, the surface treatment process of the wheel hub will also adopt different methods, which can be roughly divided into two types: baking paint and electroplating. The appearance of the wheels of ordinary models is less considered. Good heat dissipation is a basic requirement. The process is basically treated with baking paint, that is, spraying first and then electric baking. The cost is relatively economical and the color is beautiful and lasts for a long time. Even if the vehicle is scrapped, the color of the wheel remains unchanged. The surface treatment process of many Volkswagen models is baking paint. Some fashionable, avant-garde, and dynamic color wheels also use baking paint technology. This type of wheel hub is moderately priced and has complete specifications. Electroplated wheels are divided into electroplating silver, water electroplating, and pure electroplating. Although the electroplated silver and water electroplated wheels are bright and vivid in color, they last for a short time, so the price is relatively cheap, and they are liked by many young people who pursue freshness.

Manufacturing method

There are three methods of manufacturing aluminum alloy wheels: gravity casting, forging, and low-pressure precision casting.

1. Gravity casting method

The aluminum alloy solution is poured into the mold by gravity, and after forming, it is processed and polished by a lathe to complete the production. The manufacturing process is relatively simple, no precision casting process is required, the cost is low and the production efficiency is high, but it is easy to produce air bubbles (trachoma), uneven density, and insufficient surface smoothness. Quite a few Geely models are equipped with wheels produced by this method, mainly early models, and most new models have been replaced with new wheel hubs.

2. Forging method

The whole aluminum ingot is directly extruded from the mold by a 1,000-ton press. The advantage is that the density is uniform, the surface is smooth and delicate, the hub wall is thin and light, and the material strength is the highest, which is more than 30% higher than that of the casting method. However, due to the need for more sophisticated Advanced production equipment, and the yield rate is only 50% to 60%, the manufacturing cost is relatively high.

3. Low-pressure investment casting method

Precision casting under the low pressure of 0.1Mpa, this casting method has good formability, Wheel Lost Wax Investment Castings has a clear outline, uniform density, and smooth surface, which can not only achieve high strength, lightweight, but also control costs, and yield rate is in the More than 90% is the mainstream manufacturing method of high-quality aluminum alloy wheels
