FGS400-12 Ductile Iron Castings
The shock absorption of ductile iron is better than that of steel and worse than that of gray iron. The higher the spheroidization rate, the worse the shock absorption. The damping property of gray cast iron decreases with the increase of temperature, but it has little effect on ductile cast iron.

Other properties of ball mill cast iron
1. Shock absorption
The shock absorption of ductile iron is better than that of steel and worse than that of gray iron. The higher the spheroidization rate, the worse the shock absorption. The damping property of gray cast iron decreases with the increase of temperature, but it has little effect on ductile cast iron. The elastic modulus of nodular cast iron is higher than that of gray cast iron, so its sound wave propagation speed and natural frequency are higher than that of gray cast iron. The grade of spheroidization rate can be tested by acoustic difference.
2. Cutting performance
Nodular cast iron contains more graphite, which plays a role in cutting lubrication. Therefore, the cutting resistance of ductile iron is smaller than that of steel, and the cutting speed is higher. The increase of pearlite decreases the machinability of ductile cast iron, and the machinability of bainitic ductile cast iron is poor. Therefore, when ductile iron is used in the valve, the matrix type of ferrite + pearlite is used.
3. Welding complementarity
Ductile iron can not be welded, can only be welded. When the content of rare-earth magnesium alloy in nodular cast iron is high, white gap or martensitic structure is easily produced in weld and near weld area, resulting in internal stress and cracks.
4. Heat resistance
The graphite in nodular cast iron is separated from each other and can hinder the diffusion of oxygen at high temperatures compared to gray cast iron. Therefore, the oxidation resistance and growth resistance of ductile iron are better than that of gray cast iron and malleable cast iron. The high temperature growth resistance of ferritic nodular cast iron is better than pearlitic nodular cast iron. The oxidation resistance and heat resistance of ductile iron can be improved by increasing the content of Si or Al.
5. Corrosion resistance
In the atmosphere, the corrosion resistance of ductile iron is better than that of steel, which is similar to gray cast iron and malleable cast iron. The corrosion resistance of nodular cast iron in soil is better than that of steel and similar to that of gray cast iron.
The pitting resistance of nodular cast iron is slightly stronger, but the strength loss of nodular cast iron pipe after corrosion is smaller than that of gray cast iron pipe. At room temperature, the corrosion resistance of 0.5% sulfuric acid solution of nodular cast iron is roughly the same as that of gray cast iron. The corrosion rate of nodular cast iron is lower than that of gray cast iron at the beginning stage, but the corrosion rate decreases after the formation of graphitized layer on the surface of gray cast iron, while nodular cast iron has no decreasing tendency, and is higher than that of gray cast iron in the later stage. Ductile cast iron and gray cast iron have good corrosion resistance in alkali solution, similar to steel. The corrosion resistance of nodular cast iron to organic matter, sulfide and molten metal (low melting point) is similar to that of gray cast iron.
6. Wear resistance
Ductile iron is a good wear and wear reduction material, wear resistance is better than the same matrix of gray cast iron, carbon steel and low alloy steel.
(1) Lubrication and wear resistance
The wear resistance of nodular cast iron is better than that of gray cast iron.
(2) abrasive wear
Ductile iron also has certain applications under abrasive wear conditions. However, compared with white cast iron and low alloy steel, the wear resistance of ordinary ductile iron is not very good, only alloy ductile iron or alloy Bainite ductile iron has good wear resistance.
