Product Performance

1. Basic performance

(1) General performance

PEEK is a semi-crystalline low-polar polymer with a white or milky white, translucent or opaque appearance, but the film has good transparency, with a light transmittance of 85% (45μm thick film); the crystallinity is generally 20%-30%, the highest Up to 48%; high density, generally 1.265~1.32g/cm; water absorption rate as high as 0.5%, but hydrolysis resistance, especially hot water and steam resistance, tough texture.

PEEK is non-toxic in nature, has good physiological compatibility, gas barrier and water permeability, and is a good gas sealing and ion exchange membrane material.

The molding shrinkage rate is 1.1% (unmodified), which can make MT3 precision products. Moreover, adhesiveness, electroplating property, weldability, and machinability are favorable.


(2) Mechanical properties

PEEK has higher strength and modulus, and the index is better than that of PC and POM, similar to that of PI, and the performance index of reinforced PEEK is higher. Although the strength and modulus decrease rapidly when the temperature is higher than the glass transition temperature (143°C), sufficient strength and modulus can still be maintained at high temperature. For example, at 200°C, the tensile strength can still reach 50MPa, and the bending elastic modulus The amount can also reach 15GPa;

The tensile strength of GFPEEK (20%, mass fraction) at 200°C is >60MPa, and the flexural modulus of elasticity is 4~5GPa; the tensile strength of CFPEEK (30%, mass fraction) at 200°C is >70MPa, and the flexural modulus of elasticity is 8GPa or so.

PEEK has excellent creep resistance, fatigue resistance and impact resistance, and is the best among most engineering plastics, comparable to metal alloy materials. In addition, the resistance to stress cracking is also better than that of PSF, PESPC and POM.

PEEK also maintains excellent wear resistance and self-lubricating properties over a wide temperature range, with wear resistance equivalent to PI. It can maintain low friction coefficient and wear amount under repeated action of high load, especially modified wear-resistant grade PEEK, its dynamic friction coefficient can reach 0.17~0.24, the wear scar width is 3~4mm, and the limit pv value is 4MPa ·m/s (when p=0.5MPa, v=8m/s), it can be used as a friction product for precision, non-lubrication, corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance and alternating load.

The cantilever notched impact strength of reinforced or unreinforced PEEK can reach 70~100J/m, which is lower than that of PC and POM, but the toughness is the best among heat-resistant plastics.


(3) Thermal performance

PEEK has excellent heat resistance, its glass transition temperature is 143°C; melting point is 334°C; heat distortion temperature (1.82MPa) is 152°C; continuous use temperature is 240°C; short-term use temperature is 300°C; 250~260℃; short-term use temperature can reach 400℃.

The thermal stability is good, and the thermal aging and tensile strength decrease occurs only when the temperature is above 500 °C. It has excellent hot water resistance and steam resistance. After soaking in hot water at 80°C for 800 hours, and cooking in steam at 200°C, the tensile strength and appearance have no change. It is the best type of steam resistance among all engineering plastics. Work in steam above 200℃ and pressurized hot water at 300℃.

PEEK has self-extinguishing properties, OI value > 24%, and the sample with friction of 0.8~1.5mm without flame retardant can also reach the UL94V-0 level, and the smoke output during forced combustion is very small, and the smoke does not contain Poisonous gas, smoke is much smaller than PC, PSF, PTFE, PF and PES.

In addition, PEEK has a small coefficient of linear expansion and good dimensional stability, which is close to that of metal aluminum.


(4) Electrical properties

PEEK is a low polarity polymer with good electrical insulation, small dielectric constant and dielectric loss factor, and medium dielectric strength. Moreover, it still has good dielectric properties in the high frequency range, and the dielectric constant remains 3.2~3.3 in the range of 60Hz to 104Hz. Its volume resistivity is greater than 101Ωcm, and after modification, it can be made into a conductive plastic with a surface resistivity of 108~10Ω. PEEK can also maintain good electrical properties at high temperatures, and its heat resistance grade is C grade.


(5) Corrosion resistance and weather resistance

PEEK has excellent corrosion resistance. Except for concentrated sulfuric acid, it is resistant to almost any chemical reagents and most common organic solvents. It can maintain good corrosion resistance even at higher temperatures. High temperature acid and alkali resistance is better than PI , The corrosion resistance is close to nickel steel, better than PC, MPPO, PES and other varieties.


It is insoluble in 30% mass fraction of nitric acid, hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide, acetic acid and oxalic acid solutions, insoluble in cyclohexanone, xylene, trichloroethylene (ethane), ethanol, gasoline and other solvents, in chloroform, ethyl acetate Slight cracking or stress cracking may occur in ester, acetone and toluene, but the corrosion resistance can be significantly improved after annealing at 200℃×1h to increase the crystallinity.

PEEK has strong radiation resistance and is the best radiation resistance among engineering plastics. It is better than PS with excellent radiation resistance. It will only become brittle after absorbing (1.0~1.2)x107Gy dose of γ-ray irradiation. , (0.1~12)x106Gy dose of β-ray irradiation has no effect on it, so it can be used as radiation-resistant products. At the same time, PEEK has good peel resistance, so it can be used as a thin layer coating of radiation-resistant and peel-resistant wires and electromagnetic wires used in harsh conditions.

Polyetheretherketone injection molding has excellent weather resistance and can be used as various outer packaging materials in aircraft cabins, wings and space stations.


Post Injection Molding Process
