Product Performance

1. What material is POM?

POM is a kind of linear polymer with no side chain, high density and high crystallinity. It has excellent comprehensive properties and is known as "super steel" or "race steel", also known as polyoxymethylene.

2. Characteristics of POM material:

(1) The density of POM material is 1.42g/cm3, which has very high mechanical strength and rigidity, so it is commonly known as "Saigang".

(2) POM material has excellent properties such as fatigue resistance, creep resistance, wear resistance, heat resistance and impact resistance, and has a small friction coefficient and good self-lubrication.

(3) POM material is not easy to absorb moisture, and the water absorption rate is 0.22-0.25%. It has good dimensional stability in a humid environment, and its shrinkage rate is 2.1% (larger), and it is difficult to control the size during injection molding. The heat distortion temperature is 172°C, so the environmental resistance is very good.

(4) POM material has strong resistance to repeated impact, good resistance to organic solvents, and has a wide range of operating temperatures (-40℃~120℃);

(5) POM material has good electrical properties, good recovery, good wear resistance, and excellent dimensional stability.

But the fly in the ointment is that the pom material has poor weather resistance, poor adhesion, thermal decomposition and softening temperatures are close, and the oxygen limit index is small.


3. Is POM plastic toxic?

Although its scientific name is called polyoxymethylene, POM plastic is actually non-toxic.

(1) POM plastic is a non-toxic, hard and dense material with a smooth and shiny surface. POM plastics are linear polymers with high density and crystallinity. According to the different chemical structures in its molecular chain, it can be divided into two types: homo-formaldehyde and co-formaldehyde.

(2) POM plastic has high strength and stiffness, good elasticity and good wear resistance, and also has excellent mechanical properties, very close to metal. The mechanical properties of POM plastics are relatively stable and change little with temperature.

(3) POM plastics have a wide range of uses. They can be used to synthesize high-quality automotive paints, urea-formaldehyde resins, phenolic resins, etc. and various adhesives. They can also be used to synthesize paper strengtheners, and even medical * and disinfection.


4. The difference between POM and nylon

The difference between POM and nylon is quite big, as follows:

(1) The ingredients are different

POM is a kind of synthetic resin, also known as polyoxymethylene resin, POM plastic, steel material and so on. Nylon is the first synthetic fiber in the world, a common name for polyamide fiber (nylon), which can be made into long or short fibers.

(2) Different in nature

POM is generally presented as white or black plastic particles, and then processed into various products, which have the characteristics of high hardness, high rigidity and high wear resistance. Nylon has high mechanical strength, good toughness, and high tensile and compressive strength.

Post Injection Molding Process
