Babbitt Metal Φ8 Rope Head Assembly

Babbitt Metal Φ8 Rope Head Assembly

The Babbitt metal Φ8 rope head assembly is a critical component used in elevators, lifting machinery, and other equipment to connect steel wire ropes to the car or counterweight.

The Babbitt metal Φ8 rope head assembly is a critical component used in elevators, lifting machinery, and other equipment to connect steel wire ropes to the car or counterweight. Its core characteristics and structural functions are as follows:

Core Material and Performance Advantages

Babbitt metal, as the key friction material of the rope head assembly, possesses a low friction coefficient (static friction coefficient ≤0.15), high wear resistance (hardness HB≥25), and good toughness. This effectively reduces wear on the steel wire rope during operation and enhances the connection strength between the rope head and the steel wire rope through intermolecular bonding forces, ensuring stability under rated load (typically suitable for Φ8mm diameter steel wire ropes, single rope rated tensile force ≥15kN).

Structural Composition and Functional Division

Babbitt Metal Conical Sleeve: Formed using a centrifugal casting process, the inner hole has a 1:10 taper design, and the inner wall in contact with the steel wire rope is machined with anti-slip threads. The cold shrinkage properties of the Babbitt metal securely fasten the steel wire rope, preventing slippage;

Spring Damping Device: Built-in Φ20mm×50mm cylindrical helical spring (stiffness coefficient 2.5N/mm) absorbs impact loads during equipment operation (maximum cushioning stroke ±10mm), reducing dynamic stress on the steel wire rope;

Adjusting Nut and Connecting Screw: M16 high-strength screw (grade 8.8) with a double-nut anti-loosening structure supports ±30mm length adjustment, adapting to different rope length requirements in various installation scenarios;

Protective Casing: Made of Q235 steel by stamping, with a galvanized surface treatment (zinc layer thickness ≥80μm), providing IP54 dustproof and waterproof protection, suitable for humid, dusty, and other harsh environments. 3. Applicable Scenarios and Technical Parameters

Compatible Wire Rope: Diameter Φ8mm (6×19S+FC structure, nominal tensile strength 1770MPa);

Operating Temperature Range: -30℃~+80℃, meeting the temperature variations in elevator shafts, crane rooms, and other environments;

Installation Method: Connected to the elevator car via a top M20 lifting eye bolt (breaking strength ≥50kN), and the bottom tapered sleeve is fixed to the wire rope using a crimping process. After installation, a static load test of 1.25 times the rated load is required, with no plastic deformation after holding the load for 10 minutes.

Safety Features and Maintenance Requirements

Anti-loosening Design

A locking washer is added between the nut and the bolt, and Loctite 243 threadlocker is applied to the threads to ensure no loosening under long-term vibration;

Regular Inspection

Every 3 months, check the Babbitt metal tapered sleeve for cracks (using penetration testing), spring free length deviation (allowed ±2mm), and wear at the wire rope clamping point (radial wear ≤0.5mm);

Service Life

Under normal maintenance conditions, the service life of the Babbitt metal tapered sleeve is ≥8 years, the spring needs to be replaced every 5 years, and the overall scrapping standard is when cracks appear in the tapered sleeve or the wire rope clamping force drops to 80% of the rated value.

This rope end assembly is certified according to GB/T 10059-2021 "Elevator Test Methods" and GB/T 3811-2008 "Crane Design Specifications", and is widely used in wire rope connection systems for passenger elevators, freight elevators, and bridge cranes with a rated load capacity of ≤3000kg.
