Why can cemented carbide only be processed by powder metallurgy?
As we all know, like many insoluble materials, they can only be processed by powder metallurgy, such as cemented carbide materials. Because this raw material has refractory metals, ordinary processing methods are not suitable for processing, so cemented carbide can only be made by powder metallurgy forming process. So why can cemented carbide only be processed by powder metallurgy? Here is a brief introduction of the Zhongwei Precision Editor:
powder metallurgy
Cemented carbides are alloy materials made by mixing some hard metal carbides and some bonded metal (tungsten, tantalum, titanium, molybdenum, cobalt, nickel, iron) powders, pressing them with moulds, and then sintering them.
The raw material of cemented carbide, metal carbide, is difficult to combine together to form the desired size and shape, so it is impossible to produce suitable parts. They can only be bonded together with adhesive "cobalt" or steel, but cobalt and steel cannot be smelted by traditional processing methods.
In powder metallurgy processing, the raw materials of cemented carbide, such as steel, carbide and cobalt, can be made into powder first, and then they can be well mixed together. Then they can be sintered in a sintering furnace through powder metallurgy forming mould. The fine powder particles of cobalt or steel can be melted, but the carbide cannot be completely melted. After cooling, cobalt or steel can combine the carbide powder together, A cemented carbide product is formed.
To sum up, we can see that the cemented carbide raw materials have these characteristics, and the production of cemented carbide products can only be processed through powder metallurgy. Powder metallurgy can well solve the problems that can not be solved by traditional processes. It can not only make cemented carbide into final products by preparing powder, forming and sintering, but also ensure the performance of cemented carbide parts. It plays a very important role in the industrial field
