Main characteristics of stainless steel powder metallurgy

Stainless steel powder metallurgy is a kind of stainless steel made by powder metallurgy. It is a kind of powder metallurgy material, which can be made into steel or parts. Stainless steel powder metallurgy is widely used in machinery, chemical industry, ships, automobiles, instruments and meters and other industries because it can save raw materials and energy consumption and achieve low-carbon, green and environmental protection. What are the advantages of stainless steel powder metallurgy? Here is a brief introduction of the Zhongwei Precision Editor:

  1. Corrosion resistance of stainless steel powder metallurgy

Corrosion resistance refers to the ability of stainless steel to resist medium corrosion damage. Corrosion resistance includes rust resistance, resistance to acid, alkali, salt and other corrosive media, and resistance to oxidation, vulcanization, chlorination, fluorination, etc. at high temperatures. In selecting powder metallurgy stainless steel, in addition to the general corrosion resistance of stainless steel, attention must also be paid to local corrosion under specific service conditions.

2. Mechanical properties of stainless steel powder metallurgy

The mechanical properties of P/M stainless steel are determined by powder properties, sintered density and sintering parameters. For example, the production of medium density stainless steel (6.2-3.6g/cm3) is usually pressed at 415-825MPa, sintered at 1120-1150 ℃ in decomposed ammonia, hydrogen or vacuum. Good elongation, impact toughness and corrosion resistance can be obtained by sintering at a higher temperature of 1260-1315 ℃.

3. Machinability of stainless steel powder metallurgy

The machinability of sintered stainless steel is the same as that of forged stainless steel. High temperature sintering and sintering in hydrogen or vacuum can improve cutting. When sintering in nitrogen containing atmosphere, the hardness will be higher and the machinability will be damaged due to the absorption of nitrogen. In industrial production, manganese sulfide can be added to 304L to improve the machinability.

At present, stainless steel powder metallurgy is widely used due to its unique advantages, among which the proportion of powder metallurgy parts in automobiles and motorcycles is increasing, among which powder metallurgy gears are widely used.
