Production Process
S31603 is the digital code of American Standard 316L stainless steel.
S31603 reduces the carbon content on the basis of 316. It is an ultra-low carbon steel. It has good corrosion resistance to various organic acids, inorganic acids, alkalis, and salts, and has good resistance to intergranular corrosion in sensitized states. S31603 powder metallurgy pressed parts have good welding performance and are suitable for multi-layer welding. No heat treatment is required after welding, and there is no tendency for edge corrosion after welding.
What is the material of S31603?
1. S31603 belongs to the material, which corresponds to the American standard 316L stainless steel.
The national standard of S31603 is 022Cr17Ni12Mo2.
Referring to the national standard "GB/T20878-2007 Stainless Steel and Heat-resistant Steel Grades and Chemical Composition", S31603 belongs to the heat-resistant stainless steel group, and the carbon content of this stainless steel is less than 0.03%.

S31603 adds a molybdenum element (Mo contains 2-3%), which belongs to the type of molybdenum-containing stainless steel. Under high-temperature conditions, when the concentration of sulfuric acid is higher than 85% or lower than 15%, stainless steel S31603 has excellent pitting resistance and high-temperature strength. S31603 stainless steel characteristics
1. Corrosion resistance
Similar to nickel-chromium alloy 304 stainless steel, S31603 stainless steel also has the ability to resist general corrosion.
In sulfuric acid solution, 316 steel shows better corrosion resistance than other chromium-nickel type materials.
Used where acetic acid vapors, chloride solutions, bromides, or iodides are encountered, this molybdenum-containing stainless steel is less susceptible to pitting or pinhole corrosion. They are extremely resistant to fatty acid corrosion at high temperatures.
In the post-welding state or in the temperature range of (427-816 ° C) for a short time, S31603 stainless steel can resist intergranular corrosion.
2. High-temperature oxidation resistance
S31603 stainless steel has excellent oxidation resistance and a low oxidation scaling rate in the normal atmospheric environment with a temperature as high as 871-899°C. However, the oxidation rate is affected by inherent factors such as exposure environment and product form.
3. Physical properties
The overall heat transfer coefficient of the metal depends on the thermal conductivity of the metal, but also on other factors (such as the heat dissipation coefficient of the film, the scale, and the surface condition of the metal). Stainless steel keeps its surface clean, so it transfers heat better than other metals with higher thermal conductivity.
Application of S31603 stainless steel
S31603 is a molybdenum-containing stainless steel. Under high-temperature conditions, when the sulfuric acid concentration is lower than 15% or higher than 85%, S31603 stainless steel has a wide range of uses.
316L stainless steel also has good chloride corrosion resistance, so S31603 stainless steel products are often used in marine environments.
S31603 stainless steel has a maximum carbon content of 0.03% and can be used in applications where annealing after welding is not possible and where maximum corrosion resistance is required.
For example, S31603 stainless steel is commonly used in coastal b uildings and facilities, medical equipment, papermaking equipment, dyeing equipment, equipment for seawater environments, chemical fertilizer production equipment, food industry equipment, etc.
