Can titanium alloy be used as the movement material of mechanical watches? Unfortunately, it is not possible. The main advantages of titanium alloy compared with steel are low density and strong corrosion resistance, but its absolute hardness and strength are not as good as steel, and its processability is very poor. It is not suitable for making internal parts of watches, but it still has its advantages for making watch cases. The problem is that it has low brightness and is easy to scratch, so it needs to be protected by coating (plating). Many small holes on the deck are very small, and irregular cutting requires higher tools. If the strength of the splint is high, the processing difficulty will be higher. In addition, the watch movement does not have high requirements for the hardness of the splint material. At the same time, the wear resistance is provided by gem bearings. Of course, some small parts are made of high-strength materials, but small parts are easily processed by rules. Therefore, copper alloy is more suitable for the plywood material. Although copper will rust and is not wear-resistant, it is cheap and easy to cut, and can be solved in a relatively "low-cost" way through plating, lubricating oil, ruby bearings, steel parts and other components.
